Description

"Ratking" was completed for consideration for a show called "The Undesirables". The show was an exploration of subterranean creatures. The movie "The Secret of Nimh" was an early childhood obsession and the idea of the show immediately drove me to this exploration.

The piece is on a wood-stretched canvas and measures 12" x 12" x .75" I use Liquitex heavy body acrylic paint and provide thick layers to add a sense of depth to the painting for the colors.

The painting shows the devilish Rat King from the movie, which was originally released in 1982. The Rat King was the villain in the movie and his grin stuck with me through the years. I was so into the movie my mom bought me the book. Like other movies from the 80s for kids I remember being a little unnerved about the cartoon at the time. I was both terrified and obsessed with home evil the king was and looked. Bringing him alive after all these years, and with Basquiat's iconic crown, was a rewarding experience.

The canvas has been painted on the sides, this one is ready to hang.

Of course, not everyone likes rats. If you are interested in a custom piece with another cartoon character send me a note.

The painting is ready to ship in 1-3 business days. I include free goodies with all my original paintings. If you are interested in delivery outside the US please send me a message for a quote.
