Friendship and travel. Another exquisitely drawn, achingly honest, comix collection from Summer Pierre. Thank you! Shipped Fast with Paper Pencil Life #1.

Travel is my favourite theme for a zine (okay, maybe second favourite theme, second only to a CAT theme, but still...) and this is an awesome travel zine. Makes me want to jump on a plane, or a train, and GO. Thank you, Summer!

Such a delightful comic where Summer "takes us along" with her to visit friends in Europe. I love her art and observations. It reminds me of trips I've taken and I reflect on that "traveler's connection" of that common sense of experiencing new places and seeing how different yet similar they are to home. ^_^

Let me start by saying Summer is a personal virtual friend. I have even taken her online comics course. But the REASON she is a friend is because of her work which I started reading several years ago and never stopped. It is unique. Summer writes a type of autobiography that is immediately engaging whether it is about her thoughts or her observations (which are, of course, also about her thoughts). It is what I seek in writing: personal disclosure that opens doors and gives insight to the person. Souvenirs is a travelogue unlike any you will encounter, guaranteed; where else, for example can you read a whole chapter about Summer throwing up?--not Rick Steves. It is poignant. I got teary reading it (but mostly because Souvenirs is the maturing culmination of a lifetime of drawing and writing).
