Creepy... Scary... but Wicked Cool! The Angler Fish is one of Mother Nature's real-life monsters!!

Please check out how I documented the entire process (over 3 weeks) of creating this piece on my blog:

This felted sculpture was wet and needle felted with white Romney wool over a foam base. He was then dyed purple using WashFast ProChem Dyes. He also has a working Blue LED light in his "fishing rod", a 2 AA battery holder conveniently hidden behind one of his removable eyeballs, and a place to store the batteries (when not in use) behind the other.

I first carved a foam base then used 100% white wool to cover the foam by wet felting and a process called needle-felting. Needle-felting is a process of matting and compressing the wool into felt by stabbing a barbed needle into the fibers over and over again. I also used toothpicks as support for his spikey fins. He was then painted and sprayed with dyes which gives him his distinctive dark purple color. He has colorful wool felted on top as accents. Then I inserted the LED light and ran the wires down through to the battery pack in his eye socket.

His is about 18" long (by) 11" tall (by) 8" wide. About the size of 2 basketballs!!

The dyes are heat set on the wool... BUT BEWARE - the darker colors will bleed a little with too much handling or moisture. All parts are attached securely, but this is NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 12.
