Description

This listing is for a MATCHED SET (matching edition numbers) of my two most popular pieces. "Odins Ravens: Hugin and Munin" and "Wolves of Ragnarok: Skoll and Hati." I have designated ten (10) pairs to be sold as matching sets and am offering them at a special combined price of $450.

The symbolic meaning behind these two pieces make them a perfect match. Odin's Ravens are a symbol of curiosity, wisdom and the thirst for knowledge while The Wolves of Ragnarok are a symbol of impermanence and the importance of living every moment to its fullest.

The stories behind both these pieces can be read in greater detail on the individual listings.

FRAMING OPTIONS: As shown in the photos, you have the option of black and walnut frames in any combination.

-----

These layered reliefs are each created from four separate castings using cold-cast nickel silver, brass, bronze & copper and stone-infused resin. Patinas, stains, inks and/or paints are applied and the pieces are buffed to bring out highlights. They are then hand assembled, covered with a clear coat and mounted in a beautiful black no-glass shadowbox frame measuring 13" x 13" x 1.5". I find the no-glass frame brings out the true depth of the sculpt, eliminating the glare often associated with traditional glazed framing. Piece can be lightly dusted if needed.

Both the pieces are limited to 150 signed and numbered castings and this listing guarantees that you will receive a matching set.

Digging a little deeper into the story of Skoll and Hati...

The names of these wolves is well accepted, Skoll means "one who mocks" and Hati means "one who hates." One chases the sun and the other the moon, though there is some debate among academics as to which chases which. More information on this debate can be found at: http://norse-mythology.org/skoll-hati/

The Eddic poem Grímnismál has a few passages that refer to Skoll and Hati. Here is the one that inspired me to create this piece:

Skoll is the name of the wolf
Who follows the shining priest
Into the desolate forest,
And the other is Hati,
Hróðvitnir’s son,
Who chases the bright bride of the sky.

It is worth noting that "Hróðvitnir" is one of the names used for Fenrir, Loki's son, the enormous wolf who himself will be the death of Odin at the time of Ragnarok. It is therefore Hróðvitnir's (Fenrir's) children (Skoll and Hati) who will swallow the sun and moon.

I’m so absolutely in love with these pieces, I just had to include “Freyja’s Cats” and an Yggdrasil to boot! My pieces are a beautiful addition for my new home. Pictures truly can’t show how amazing these pieces are made.

Aric, your craftsmanship and obvious love for your art shows and it’s brilliant. Thank you so much for these beloved pieces. They’ll one day be passed down in my family, because they’re ‘timeless’ pieces of my family’s heritage. You have a loyal customer who definitely will be purchasing more pieces in the near future, and I’m excited to begin receiving the miniatures of the month; I had to subscribe because I enjoy your work. Thank you so much!

With utmost sincerity,

Brielle Brennan

ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THE SET OF WOLVES AND RAVENS! I am so happy to have made the plunge and added these to my life! Aric Jorn has been a pleasure to speak with and I'm honored to have his artwork. The communication, shipping, delivery and overall attention to this purchase was perfect! The packaging and shipping is a work of art in itself! Very much looking forward to adding additional pieces in the future. I could not be happier with these!
