Henri Michaux was a great avant garde Belgian poet who wrote in French , and later took French citizenship. His poetry is considered among the most original works produced in the 20th century. "Épreuves Exorcismes, 1940 - 1944" , a series of prose poems, was originally published in 1945. This is the 10th edition, issued in 1949 by Gallimard. As you can see the paper is unavoidably toned, which is par for books published on the continent just after the war. But the book remains clean and attractive. It is a brilliant paean to life and spirit and determination lived under the threat of war and madness.
