A true piece of Australian history, (circa 1880's) in excellent condition , this beautiful Chinese handmade ceramic jug with its deep rich brown/black glaze, was discovered in the historical gold mining town of Maytown, Palmer River in Far North Queensland Australia.

There was a very large Chinese population in Maytown around the 1800's, as they came to find their fortunes in gold. These items were produced by Chinese workers for Chinese Whisky and Soy sauce, including many other day to day items such as bowls and cups etc. Many of the original ovens that the Chinese used to make these items still exist in the Palmer River region . Although many items were destroyed after the gold rush of the time, some items were unearthed and discovered in original condition.

Chinese Soy Jug measures (16 cm) 6.4 inches tall and (46 cm) 18 inches diameter, around belly.
