Description

1938 SANTA-FE RAILROAD and GRAND CANYON ARIZONA Advertising Pamphlet/Booklet

This really is a great piece of American History. The 1930's was a time when Americans were enthralled with the West and with Arizona in particular and the train was a great way to travel. (If you doubt this, take a look at the 1930's cars pictured in this Booklet and just imagine traveling across the country in them.) I knew the trains were popular for travel to the West, because I knew that the vintage turquoise jewelry that I treasure was sold at the train depot by the Indians of Arizona. However, I was not aware that the Santa Fe Railroad offered total vacation "packages" with horseback riding, Indian Dances, "Moving" picture shows, 1 or 2 day trips (in the old cars) to visit the "Phantom Ranch," Indian Villages and other wonders.

The Brochure is printed in two colors, black and red with the blending of inks creating a pink tone on some pictures. It is in VERY GOOD condition. The original user must have folded it to fit in a suit pocket but because the booklet was made with 10 pieces of good quality paper (making 40 pages total), the fold has not made sharp creases in each page. There is a little place by the bottom staple where the metal rusted and left some paper deterioration … see the last picture. The last picture also shows the map of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Co.'s lines and Connections.

The brochure is 8 inches wide and 9 inches tall. (Just now I noticed the tiny little horseback riders in the bottom left of the cover picture. Incredible photography for the 1930's!)

A great feature of this listing is the separate "Information and Rates" sheet. It is dated November 1938. Folded 3 times, it is 23 inches X 8 1/2 inches and gives the traveler a great variety of ways to enjoy the trip. I noted that the 2-day Phantom Ranch Trip was only $18.00 per person TOTAL and included everything….meals and all!

I know I spent a lot of time reviewing this Advertising Brochure, but it really deserves it!

Price is $12.00 and media shipping will be $3.00.

I gladly refund any shipping charges that exceed the postage and money spent on boxes and packing materials. Of course, I will combine orders to create larger refunds. Your purchases will be shipped within 3 working days.
