Description

After the success of my Donkey Kong: Chutes and Ladders mash-up boardgame, I decided to make another 8-bit video game/board game combination. In both Super Mario Bros. 2 and Candy Land there are 4 characters traveling through a colorful dreamland to find a king who hates vegetables, so they seemed a natural fit. I created this game from scratch, pixel by pixel, using the "snap to grid" function in Adobe Illustrator and many reference photos.

EDUCATIONAL: This is a fan-art project intended to be an homage to the innocent fun of yesteryear. This game is also great for teaching colors, counting, and possibly an appreciation of vegetables to young children.

INCLUDES: a high resolution PDF file of the game. I recommend printing 11"x17" (tabloid size) cardstock, but it can be printed larger or smaller, if needed.

SET-UP: You may begin by cutting out the board itself as shown in photo 2. Then, cut out the characters and movement cards, along the dotted lines. The colored and veggie movement cards can be shuffled together and stacked face down for play. Use your scissors to gently score the solid lines on the character pawn cut-outs, for easy folding. You may then use glue or a tiny bit of tape to seal the bottom; the character pawns will then stand freely.

Standard Candy Land rules apply:
-Stack the deck of cards face down and draw to move.
-Single color box = move forward to next space with the color shown.
-Double color box = move 2 colored spaces forward.
-Veggie = move to the corresponding veggie space.
-If you land on a black bullet space, you lose your next turn
-If you land on a shortcut (vine) follow vine up to 2nd arrow
-The 1st player to reach the rainbow space at the end (by any color) wins

Thank you, for checking out my shop!

PS. If you wish to see a physical boardgame made from this project in the future, message me to let me know. If enough people request it, I'd certainly make it available.

I'm a classroom teacher and I wanted to use this facilitate review. The seller quickly responded to my questions and happily made appropriate changes to the original item to make it more suitable for large format printing. Super nice guy with excellent items and service. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next!
