Reminiscent of a papoose in a cradle board, or a kachina; I call them "Namas." When they are necklaces, I call them Nama Trinket Necklaces, and this one is the large size. It is only 3 1/2" tall to the top of the head, and if you measure the fringy "hair," it is 5" tall. The Nama is 1 1/2" wide at the widest point.

Namas are meant to be precious little ones, they are carefully and lovingly fashioned and embellished in the manner of an exquisite icon. They are embodiments of a little tiny essence.

For these babies, i also hand-make the little faces and feet, from polymer clay, and color them for added depth. then i construct a body that holds the face and feet together, and weave over it. This is a totally unique process, all my own, and it very labor intensive. These little woven wearables take hours to weave, and are quite intricate in their construction. they are woven using an off-loom technique, twisting the thread in a process called twining. The little threads are usually only 2-4 ply, very tiny and requiring great dexterity and patience.

Handwoven of very fine Irish waxed linen, embellished with beads. The necklace is about 26" long, hangs between the breasts for most women. This one is orange, cream and blue.

This doll is the same style as those created by me shown in Art Doll Quarterly Winter 2008
