One of my favorite mola lizard designs done here in very labor intensive,, hand stitched reverse applique! Two shades of luscious blues... bold cobalt and rich turquoise plus 6 other vibrant colors.

Bean bag style, versatile & very tactile! And now ON SALE !!

This cross-cultural collaboration combines Mimbres, Kuna Indian art.. and mine! Inspiration came from ancient New Mexico Mimbres Indian pottery designs. I tweaked the design, added the color.. then handed it off to a very gifted Kuna artist who translated it into exquisitely hand sewn Mola. Voila! Blue appliqued lizard is born. New Mexico Neo-Mimbreno art with a Kuna twist!

Note the amazing amount of hand stitched applique. Traditional mola elements include 'puntitas'.. those turquoise spots you see all over her face and body. These are all reverse applique and so hard to sew. The mola work is OUTSTANDING!

THE DETAILS:

Layers of traditional reverse applique mola, beautifully HAND STITCHED by a very gifted Kuna Indian artist in Kuna Yala, The San Blas Islands, Panama.

• 13 1/2 " long x 5 1/2 " across x 1 3/4 " thick
• Fabric layers: 3+
• Base layer: Cobalt blue
• 2nd layer: Rich turquoise
• 3rd layer: Cobalt blue
• Lots of colorful applique on top of that
• Mola hand sewn in Panama
• Made into an animal and stuffed here in the USA by moi, Molamama!
• Filled w/ hypoallergenic industry standard plastic pellets and fibrefIl

The applique is very well hand sewn.. the animal itself is machine stitched and triple stitched around all stress points.

She can sit up, drape or just hang out. Would look great on a couch, a bed.. or on a wall! I have a similar hanging out on my bookshelf above my computer.

A great gift or your lizard loving friends! Info card included.
