“I think about you night and day,
I need you and it's true.
When I think about you, I can say,
I'm never, never, never, never blue.”

. . . or black or white or dark brown or green….. All the colors in a Beatles Paint By Number kit.

A couple of months ago, I decided to share my love for the old Monkees Paint by Numbers with everyone by remaking the complete kit from soup to nuts. Everything, completely handmade, doing what I hope was a man’s job on duplicating the original kit as close as possible to what we remember from the 60’s.

My thinking is always that there are a ton of people out there in the world just like me. We have such love and affection for those things from our past that our mothers threw away out of some crazy sense of “it won’t cause them any psychological problems in the future if I trash their favorite toys. . . .” And unfortunately, the only way to reacquire our cherished possessions today is to miss a house payment, take out a loan from the bank or our credit cards, or in the most drastic of needs to recollect . . . sell our souls to the buying devil.

It is for all of you (and myself mostly) that I have started to recreate those things which will once again put an everlasting smile on my face. And while I cannot afford to pay an arm and a leg or a hip or a shoulder or especially some of the tastier parts for an original . . . I can certainly afford to recreate the item as close to the pristine store shelf version for a price that spits in the eye of the economy.

And so, with this in mind, I give you my Beatles Paint By Number kits. After the Monkees, the natural instinct was to duplicate the Beatles PBNs. Little did I realize they were among the Holy Grails of Beatle collectibles. Beyond that, there were only just a few reference pictures I could work from in order to reconstruct the box, both inside and out.

I was very very lucky to purchase an original John Lennon painting along with the original “Artist Portrait” that was included in each kit. I didn’t remember at all that on the back of the portrait was a biography of the respective Beatle. But from the painting, I could work the long hours to return it back to the numbered drawing. The portrait and the biography were easy enough to recreate.

But the box . . . that was tough. Let’s just say that unlike my father, I am built of infinite patience and the creative ability to cohabitate long enough with Photoshop to reproduce the results you can best see in the pictures displayed in this ad.

In addition to the full kit, with the paints, and the brushes, and the complete box along with the paint by number and the artists portrait, biography on the back . . . Whew, that’s a mouthful . . . I’ve also found in my research, the original magazine ad for the kits along with Artistic Creations (the manufacturer) 11x17 ad for all their Paint By number kits which they boast “Of The Stars!” Reproductions of both are also included with each kit. And finally, the rarely seen and even more rarely remembered . . . the “Beatles price tag stickers” on each kit.

Again, all are reproductions. I have done MY VERY VERY BEST to duplicate all I could see and remember

And as to the biographies on back of the Artist’s portraits, I was able to get John, Paul, and George’s bios with no problem. I’m still missing the correct Ringo however. I recreated his from the bio in the 1964 first edition of “The Beatle Book.” The text and info seemed very close to that which was written about them for the kits.

The paint by number of John, Ringo and George were taken from an original Paint by numbers that I won on Ebay. Paul was recreated from a picture of the finished painting I worked my way back from them all with what I think are spectacular results.

The goal was to be able to offer not just one, but all four of the kits in their entireties. As long as I was doing one, why not go the distance if I could. I mean, hell, I wanted to repaint these myself and hang them up in my basement where they once hung proudly.

So now, I’m offering these kits to all the other Beatles fans in the world who can neither find nor afford an original.

In this ad, you get everything of Ringo you see in the pictures. The box is 19x14x2, comes complete with 9 paints, a glass bottle of paint cleaner and two brushes. The artist’s portrait appears in the window with the Paint by number behind it. The box will come shrink wrapped to you (see the last picture of the shrink wrapped George kit) along with the appropriate Beatles price sticker on the side.

That’s it . . . . Sorry for the long ad. I take tremendous pride in the recreation of these kits. They look beautiful, whether simply for display in your collection or if you choose to actually paint the kits as you did while you listened to “She Loves You” back when you were just a kid first falling in love with the Beatles.

So in parting, let me sing, “I’ll Get You, I’ll Get you in the end.
Oh yes I will, I’ll get you in the end.”

. . . especially since I can now afford to.

Ask me anything and everything you can think of.

Take care, your friendly Neighborhood Creative Pal, Paul W.
