This oval ceramic casserole is made of a stoneware clay and is wheel thrown and altered by hand in my own studio. It is glazed in tenmoku glaze that turns this warm copper brown where it is thinner. It was fired to cone 10 in a reduction environment.

The casserole is food safe, microwave and dishwasher safe as well. It can be used in the oven, but only if you put it in a cold oven and let warm up with the oven. This should be done with all ceramic pieces.

It measures 10 inches long, and 11.5 inches from handle to handle. It measures 6 inches at its widest and 3.25 inches high. It holds about 48 ounces or 6 cups of your favorite dish.

Never leave lit candles unattended. Lanterns, votive holders, candle holders, luminaries will become hot after they have been lit for a while, even if they are electric.

Never take ceramics directly from the freezer or refrigerator to the oven. Always let the piece warm up in the oven during the preheating of the oven. Never put ceramics on an open flame.

Stoneware can be used in the microwave oven, but will absorb some heat. Use car when taking pieces out of the microwave.

Stoneware pieces are dishwasher safe. Handle them with care when washing to avoid chipping. Once a piece is chipped it is likely that a crack will develop as well, and should no longer be used to heat and serve food.
