This is a miniaturization of my trademark "Catching the Moon" series of woven art pieces.

The tiny moon face is formed of porcelain clay, fired and glazed and fired again.
Then it is painstakingly captured by weaving very small gauge natural reed 'round it. The weaving technique is called coiling, and it is a slow and precise process, made more complex by the tiny size. When the shape has been coiled, it is strung with teeny tiny warp elements, across the face of the piece, turning it into a teeny tiny loom. Then it is hand woven, thread by thread, in a netted pattern across the front of the piece, in a complex wing pattern, partially obscuring the moon face. The tiny netting is called Teneriffe, and is a technique used in
pine needle basketry (though usually done FIRST, not LAST, which makes this, again, more complex than the "normal" application.)

Each piece is absolutely unique and one of a kind (OOAK)

This OOAK pin is backed with three tie-tack style pinbacks, for support.
It is recommended to be worn on a sweater, jacket or other
substantial fabric.

In February of 2009, my piece, Catching the Pale, Pale Moon,

was a NICHE AWARDS finalist, and it is on that work that this particular
art pin is based.
