Elegant LBD cocktail dress and evening coat. Owned by a former evening gown model of the 40s and 50s, this ensemble was purchased at Ogilvy's here in Montreal sometime during the very late 50s, early 60s. Ogilvy's sold only high end clothing and, although this outfit does not have a label, it is made from the finest materials and has couture elements such as hand sewn lining armholes and hand set and pick-stitched dress zipper.

Exceptionally well made.

Only having been worn on special occasions, this suit saw very little wear, but the coat and dress were professionally hemmed at one time and the sleeves lengthened (from 3/4 to about 7/8 in length) to try and keep up with current trends. Nothing appears to have been cut however and there is a 2.5" seam allowance on both the coat and the dress should you wish to bring it back to its original length.

The wool is soft and napped on the outside with silvery hairs that sparkle depending on the light. The lining of the coat is a rich paisley synthetic in tones of gold, deep red, sepia and green and backed with cotton for added warmth. The dress is lined in a black synthetic.

The coat is single breasted and does up with three big, round and rich satin braided buttons and satin is piped in on the collars edge. An additional snap does up under the collar. The sleeveless dress has a charming low decollete sweetheart neckline and it does up at back with a long nylon zipper ending in a hook and eye.

Quiet, rich, elegance.

The photographs have been taken on a 5"10" size small (3, 4) mannequin with a 33" bust. The mannequin is tall for the dress. The bust of the dress measures 36 underarm to underarm and is tight on the mannequin, partly because the mannequin is tall for the dress and it is not being worn with a period bra to push up and out.

VINTAGE RATING / CONDITION (see chart on Shipping and Policy page):
Very good condition! As mentioned it is not the original length. There is a mild ghosting at the very rim of the inside lining of the dress armholes. Otherwise, the condition is excellent.
