Fabulous and rare figured black walnut spoon measures 13¾” long, 2” wide and ⅞” deep. Fiddleback Black Walnut, or American Black Walnut as it is often called, with this tight a figure is rare. The wood actually grows in a tight array of S-shaped waves the length of the tree, so when it is cut flat into boards, it reflects light differently off the straight grains, rift and end grains of the wood as they are revealed. It makes for wonderful character and beauty. Walnut will actually get lighter in color as it ages.

The wood has been saturated with pure Tung Oil, with a buildup of about a dozen hand rubbed coats. It is completely waterproof. Over time it will show some wear, and can be rubbed with Bees Wax to surface seal. Even without a Bees Wax treatment, the spoon is still waterproof.

You will notice the inner bowl is not sanded as perfectly as the outside, and has some small tool marks. These do not take away from the appearance or functionality of the spoons. It lends a more ”primitive” appearance.

In caring for your spoon, never let it sit in water for any length of time, and do not run it through the dishwasher. Hand wash in soapy water, Hand or drip dry. During use, be gentle banging it on pots, and especially protect the bowl edges. These edges are strong but tapered, and may chip if excessive force is used.

A one of a kind kitchen utensil or showpiece.

Thanks for visiting my shop.
