I am extremely inspired by the ethnic textile traditions of central Asia. Every part of the felt in these pieces are completely handmade using traditional wet felt techniques. The inspiration for this necklace is the nomadic people of Mongolia. I imagine yurts, camels, sheep, the Gobi, and all the wool felt clothing that the nomads have worn and made by hand for centuries. I am also inspired by the huge chunky necklaces that I have seen and admired.

This necklace is made of extra large handmade felt wool balls that are strung into one long piece. The piece is very large but very light as well.

The necklace is made of 12 felt beads that are made of Black welsh mountain sheep wool (a natural deep deep dark brown black color) and 10 dark chocolate merino lamb wool beads. The merino beads are placed 5 on each side near the neck and the clasp for softness. The felt ball beads average about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The necklace has a huge bead placed asymmetrically that is about the size of a tennis ball. All of the wool I have sourced from small farms here in the US.

The necklace measures 31 inches from end to end and is finished with a sterling silver clasp.
