How To Make Books by Esther K Smith
Materials: paper, impressed raw board, wood type
From zines you can fold in a minute to luxurious leather journals and sumptuous sketchbooks, How to Make Books will walk you through the easy basics of bookmaking. Whether you’re a writer, a scrapbooker, a political activist, or a postcard collector, let book artist Esther K Smith be your guide as you discover your inner bookbinder. Using foolproof illustrations and step-by-step instructions, Smith reveals her time-tested techniques in a fun, easy-to-understand way.
Esther K Smith wrote and co-designed HOW TO MAKE BOOKS. At Purgatory Pie Press Dikko Faust hand-set wood and metal display type for the cover and chapter openers. That type was scanned into the design file and the book was published commercially by Random House.

The book has arrived, I picked it up yesterday and I have already gone through it from start to end. I rescued some paper from work and will start experimenting tonight. (I have saved all envelopes with beautiful data protection patterns and sheets from our many wall calendars for a while now). n nI love the book, not only for the great explanations, the encuragement to think outside the box and the many examples, but also because it is so beautiful. I think it will look better the more it is used. I will show it to my bookbinder teacher. I think she will love it. :) n nThanks! n nAgneta N
The book is very very nice, very well done and clear. I imagined a small book but it's big! And I love its "maquette" (I don't know the world in English), its style. Thank you too for the dedicace and for the lovely gift. nMerci Esther et peut-être à bientôt un jour à Paris :-) nCecile

I have always admired this book. Checked it out several times from my local library and now I am a happy owner of this book. If you are a serious bookbinder or simply like to book bind for fun like me, add this one to your collection and follow the easy steps for a nice artistic book collection.
