This Vernon Kilns plate is marked on the back, but is not dated. It commemorates the founding of San Diego by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. The plate was made for Whitney and Company. The plate features many of the local San Diego historical points of interest. The palm tree is a nice touch.
This plate is 10 1\/2" in diameter and is in great condition with no chips, nicks, cracks, or wear to the surface. The color is a maroon\/brown on ivory background. From the image of a prop airplane flying over the original 1938 San Diego Civic Center on the plate, I would date this plate to the 1940s or 1950s.
