This is an amazingly beautiful piece of Elm. This bowl has beautiful coloring of the heart wood and the sap wood. The contrast is extra ordinary. This bowl has a food safe mineral oil finish. The size is 9-1/2"W X 4-1/4"T. A lovely additon to any table.

Heres a few facts about the Elm Tree. The fibrous inner bark is a strong and durable fibre, which can be spun into thread, twine or rope. It can be used for bow strings, ropes, jewelery, clothing, snowshoe bindings, woven mats, and even some musical instruments. The wood is used for the hubs of wagon wheels, as it is very shock resistant owing to the interlocking grain. There are also many medicinal uses for the Elm.

The Elm is a native tree to Georgia and was locally grown. This particular tree had died, and had to be taken down. I only turn native or locally grown woods. Wood collected and destined for the lathe is from local trees (Northeast Ga. Area) that were felled due to wind, disease, or urban development. No tree is ever taken for the sole purpose of this craft.

Eco-friendly recycling was used in keeping this wood out of the land fill.
