The welsh Harp is a modern asymmetrical variation of a traditional Welsh house blessing, or Welsh Border Fan.
This piece, is an asymmetrical variation of a traditional Welsh Border Fan, and ancient harvest design used now as a house blessing.

This peice is woven from black bearded durum wheat. It measures approximately 16 inches tall, by 15 inches wide.

The last sheaf of wheat harvested was traditionally woven into a kind of talisman, to provide a home for the spirit of the field through the winter. Which would be released back to the field in the spring. When the last sheaf is cut, the dolly complete, the Festival begins!

Modern straw artists use the ancient techiques to make blessings for home, family and special occasions. Celebrate the season, and bless your home with abundance! Or give this weaving as the perfect house warming gift.

Wheat weaving appear fragile, but last very well. I have the first ones I made almost 30 years ago. They can be dusted with a feather, or for more figorous cleaning, can be swished in light suds, rinsed and dried in it's original shape.
