This large ovenware bowl by Fire King is a bit of an enigma. Stamping on bottom is similar to those that appeared in the mid to late 1940s. Bottom states: ‘FIRE KING OVEN WARE- MADE IN THE U.S.A.’ circled around a large W in a circle with a line and ‘17’ below it. None script. I haven’t found this exact marking. The bowl is in mint like new condition. Latter stampings typically include Anchor Hocking which bought out Fire-king in the 1960s. The bowl is very large- 4 inches deep by 8.5 wide. It has two small handles on the side and is similar to mixing bowls which might have come in a mixer set. This is ovenware however and is safe to cook in. (not stove top) No chips, cracks, flaws or staining. Really, this looks brand new. I can’t really say this dates back to the 1940s, but would lean more towards that period than new Anchor Hocking pieces which would bear their mark.

I've been told this is a Westinghouse mixing bowl made for their stand mixers from the 1950's. This sounds like the most reliable info I've had so far. Shipping includes insurance fee.
