What a cool collar detail, right?

Miguel Ferreras was a Cuban designer working in New York in the 1950s. He married Oonagh Guinness in 1957 and I imagine was a darling of the jet set back in the day.

His clothes were stunning, and I found a few mentions of his work online with pictures from LIFE in 1957 and a few others.

His designs, mostly custom made suits and lingerie styles, are a rare find in the market, and I hope this jacket finds a home with someone who truly responds to it. The handiwork is exquisite and the jacket is a gorgeous creation. This would be a great jacket for a designer to copy--that neckline! Fashion designer Isabel Toledo, whose collar detailing and wowie kazowie construction is well known, I'm certian counts Ferreras as an influence.

While it's just so damn cool, it's in less than perfect condition. With some careful restoration it could come back to a fully revived life. It has a few small holes from moths (one on the sleeve I have pictured) and some moth damage on the front of the coat, pictured as well. The lining at the armpit is worn and stained as well. I am guessing this was the former owner's favorite jacket back in the day (she was a fashion plate New York interior decorator).

Label: sewn in the side seam of the jacket
Miguel Ferreras, New York
Size: none listed in garment I'm guessing this is a size 8
Fabric content: no tag, but it's wool mohair twill'
Measurements: laid flat
Lined: yes, in grey silk
36" bust
40" hip
16" sleeve inseam; 22" outer sleeve length
18" down front of jacket from buttoned collar center to front hemline.
25" back of collar to back hemline

Condition: a few areas of moth damage on front, and a hole on the cuff on the sleeve. Lining at arm pits is damaged. Coat needs to be dry cleaned. It is definintely wearable, it just needs a little work.

Convo me with any questions, and thanks for checking out my shop.

Cheers!

Chip
