I call this my Flat “Oak” Box. On the top of the box is a variation of a “Rolling Star” quilt pattern. The flat box is about 9 1/4" x 6 1/4” and 2 7/8" high on the outside. Inside it is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 1 3/8". I made it using 238 pieces of wood cut in either diamond or triangle shapes from different kinds of wood. The box is finished in its natural color with 5 or 6 coats of a clear wiping varnish, rubbed in by hand. The pieces are a bit over 3/16" thick, glued onto a Baltic Birch base, so hold up much better than a thin veneer.

The type of wood is listed on the bottom of the box from the center out. On this box the wood is “Walnut” and “Oak” from Missouri and “Brazilwood” from Brazil.

I made this box in 1996. On the bottom I signed it, listed the wood, and dated it. After the date, the words “Foot Cut” let you know I made it on a foot powered table saw.

I lined the box with black velveteen.

You can buy a matching set of up to 3 different boxes with this design and coloring.

The flat box is just right to hold some of your favorite jewelry. You get only the box.

Go to my ”Shop Polices” and “Profile” page to see my return policy and other information on how I make these. To see other Flat Boxes I’ve made, click on “Large Boxes” or whatever gets your interest under “Sections in this shop”. The “Home” page itself can be rather confusing with everything mixed up. The “Sections in this shop” lets me show you all like items together as a unit.

Estimated arrival

The estimated delivery date is based on your purchase date, the recipient's location (actual or inferred), the seller's processing time and location, and the shipping carrier. Other factors—like placing an order on a weekend or a holiday—may end up pushing the arrival of your item beyond the estimated delivery date. It's our hope that your item gets where it's going as soon as possible, but given the factors involved, this is only an estimate.

Excellent craftsmanship. I placed it on an easel-type rosewood stand and you eye is quickly brought to the star when entering a room.

I LOVE IT!! This box is absolutely beautiful! I loved it in the picture but honestly the picture just isn't even close to how beautifully crafted it is. The different woods blend so well, its hard to believe they are all pieces of different trees. The differing colors compliment each other incredibly well and I can already see that over time the colors will only become more rich.
