This wonderful vintage necklace is by Goldette NY. It's very Victorian style, which was the custom of Goldette's designs.

Goldette of NY first used the Goldette signature as early as the fall of 1955 and carry the copyright as (c) or (R) after the signature. On the later jewelry, the (c) was used before their mark, and was stamped onto an oval applied disc. It was during 1959 that the mark became just "Goldette". They continued using the mark into the 1960s. Goldette was used in script for most all jewelry pieces. They mainly produced jewelry designed in Victorian style, in antiqued gold fashion or bright silver finish. Known for its large leaded glass sets and ornate metal work, they produced many items which have long since been discarded. The higher quality early jewelry in their line is becoming more diffiuclt to find and, therefore, more coveted and collectible.

This partiuclar piece is just fabulous. It's done in gold color (actually almost brassy color) metal. Each side of the necklace features 4 strands of link chain, with 2 sizes each. It has a beautiful ornate clasp which snaps closed.

From the 4 strands of chain on each side, there are 2 longer strands and 2 shorter ones. The 2 longest strands measure 21" long, and the 2 shorter ones are 15" long. From the 2 shorter strands, there is a wonderfully ornate and encrusted faux pocket watch which actually serves as a locket.

The watch\/locket front features a circle of glass stones in a very dark red color. They could possibly be genuine garnet or ruby stones, but I won't attest to that without having them tested. In the center is a glass turquois stone. On the back side of the watch\/locket, there is plenty of the ornate design carried over, with 1 of the red stones in the center. The watch\/locket measures 1-1\/2" in diameter. The hinge on the locket works great.

This is an absolutely outstanding piece of old jewelry. The only flaw I find with this piece is on one side, at the top, where the chain strands attach to the clasp. There, the "O" ring (attachment ring) has been replaced with one that doesn't match. To change this ring to a better matching one is something that anyone can do. I assure you, however, it's fine to wear it just as it is, and no one will ever notice that little mismatched "O" ring.

I've given a lot of informatin with this listing, for which I apologize for its lengthiness. However, I do like to provide as much history as I possibly can when I come across such wonderful and awesome pieces as this.
