A unique raku plate....a wonderfully distinctive piece of art pottery you will want to display in your home.

This plate is about about 6 inches square and about 1.5 inches high.

This small plate was hand formed from a slab of clay. Small feet were added to the bottom. Many of our customers hang these plates on the wall in group arrangements, using several different colors of plates. There is a coated wire hanger on the back. You can also display this plate on a table or even a plate stand on a shelf. There are felt pads on the feet to protect your furniture.

After bisque firing, the plate was glazed with a wonderfully rich, orange\/poppy crackle glaze.
In the center of the plate is a handglazed spiral design.

The plate is then placed in a specially built kiln and heated until the glaze has melted. Still glowing with intense heat,it is removed from the kiln. This thermal shock causes the glaze to crackle.

Then the plate is placed into a container of sawdust. The sawdust ignites and produces a smoky atmosphere where carbon is absorbed into the unglazed clay and the crackled glaze.

Each piece has its own distinct crackle pattern and is unique in the way the carbon darkens the clay.
