This handpainted Pinecones on a Branch Storm Jar is a beautiful representation of the northwoods. The spruce green pine needles seem to sway in the breeze as if watched from your back deck. This Storm Jar is both an attractive display item as well as functional. The Storm Jar has been a feature in homes since colonial times. The jar has a top which doubles as a candle holder, and inside the jar is a box of matches and emergency candles. The purpose behind the storm jar is that you will always know where candles are in the event of a power outage. All it takes is one time to make you a believer in having a Storm Jar handy. And what an attractive way to have the candles handy.

The jar measures 6 inches tall and is 4.25 inches across the rim and is 3.5 inches at the base. The rim is lightly brushed in spruce green as is the cover. The interior of the jar has delicate green speckles and a folk art style heart. The main design of a pine branch with pinecone has a brown/black branch, spruce green needles, and brown pinecones with black accents. All show off beautifully against a cream colored stoneware clay background.

The jar was wheel thrown at my studio in Northern Wisconsin. The design is individually hand painted then bisque fired. The Storm Jar is then coated in a clear final glaze and fired to cone 6. The bottom is unglazed and smooth.

This item is lead free, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. As with any pottery item, hand washing will prolong the life of the dish.
