If you are looking for a special gift, choose hand-coloured maps over printed maps.

This map of the Cape Colony, South Africa, is a fine, antique hand-coloured map of exceptional quality, from Gilbert's Modern Atlas, published in London, with date attributed to 1842 (early British publications are notorious for not having dates on the front page, but the year of publication can be gleaned from the text in the atlas). Drawn and engraved by L. Dower, Pentonville, London, with letterpress by Robert Mudie.

This map is in very good condition. Printed on very thick paper; blank on the back. Patina consistent with age. To preserve this map for another hundred years, use archival quality mats when framing.

It is an original map, not a reproduction! Bananastrudel sells only originals. A copy of the front page will be sent to you as proof of provenance. Any watermark, whimsical or otherwise, does not appear on the map.
