Striped in black and claret, this linen/hemp mix is great fabric, perfect for upholstery, cushions, table runners, tote bags, laptop bags, and even floor rugs.

Dating from 1930s or perhaps earlier, it is very, very hardwearing, made of jute/hemp/chanvre - with a little softer linen in there too I think, and a very nice woven stripe colourway. The colourway is the very, very darkest inky black/blue - and claret: very smart. The texture is absolutely gorgeous - nubbly, flecked with natural fibres, and it feels warm and so eco-friendly!

It's a really versatile textile for the home - rustic enough to use in any country house or cottage, smart enough to put down in a town house or loft apartment.

I am describing this as French/German as it comes from the Alsace region (the border moved back and forth in time.)

I would really like to sell this in one piece - it is difficult to get this fabric in one long length these days as so many textiles are being chopped up.

This has been stored for many years - there are storage marks, and the last metre or two has dirty marks, which may or may not come out in a launder - it definitely needs airing to remove any mustiness and to freshen, but a day or so outside should do magic. I have done nothing to it at all ie it is in original condition.
