How about a gift for a friend who went on a Panama Canal cruise and loved it. What could be better than this little 6 ¼ inch (about 158 mm) plate, with a map of the newly opened Panama Canal and a 1915 calendar border. It was an advertising piece “Compliments of A. W. Clifton Furniture Co. Sacramento, CA”.

The mark on the back indicates that this particular plate was made by Harker Pottery, East Liverpool, OH and Chester NY. I've had a convo from an Etsy member who has the same plate, advertising a furniture store in Oregon, that was made by Edwin Knowles. The completion by the US and the opening of the Panama Canal was such a big deal, and generated so much patriotic ferver, I'm sure that every business wanted to be associated with it. This plate has all of the patriotic flags and banners you could want and is in as close to perfect condition as you're going to find. There might be a tiny bit of wear along a small section of the gold rim but you have to use a magnifying glass to see it, and I'm not sure but what it was a minor imperfection in the manufacturing. There is no crazing, chips or cracks. What looks like a major bit of missing gold border on the photo is the light reflection.

I’ve priced shipping to allow for lots and lots of packing material. If the actual cost is less I will happily credit your PayPal account.
