As a child I would often hike with my family in my home state of California. My favourite part of these outings would be sifting through rocks and dirt to find fossils. It didn't matter to me what the impressions on the stones I found had, I loved them. To find a part of nature, whether it was an animal or plant was incredibly comforting. To know that all things that exist will leave a mark on this world.
I aim to make as many positive marks on this world as possible! That's why my designs are not only made with the love of natures beauty, but also with complete passion. Passion for the world around us, passion for the world we aim to create and passion to create pieces of wearable art for families to cherish for generations to come.
I start all of my designs with day-dreaming and remembering cherished moments in life. Then comes the sketching. I try to imagine how I want the finished piece to look. This doesn't always match the item the I actually put out into the world- this is the trial and error portion of the designing process and I appreciate it most among all the other steps. It allows me the opportunity to create something even better than I had originally believed I could make.
Next, I grab materials. At first, I use clay to practice forming the piece to see if the structure I designed will hold up to years of daily wear. Once I'm happy with the prototype I move on to the actual construction of the piece with sterling silver.
I purchase responsibly sourced, high quality recycled silver for each of my designs. This allows me to lower my footprint on the planet. I also use safe and natural alternatives to some of the chemicals normally used in jewellery making.
Once I have formed the piece out of silver I must refine it. This is a very time-consuming task and can be quite difficult for smaller pieces. However it is important to the luster of the finished piece and I take immense pride in spending as much time as it takes sanding and polishing all my pieces of silver to look as beautiful as the women that will one day wear them deserve.
