I've been on Etsy for quite a while now and, with over 1500 sales, I've been contacted many times by other Etsy shopowners wondering where I get my professional-looking labels. My secret? I make them myself!

But as we all know, secrets secrets are no fun.... that's why I've made this wonderfully simple tutorial on how to make your very own fabric labels. Washable, no-fray, printed labels that you can make yourself in the quantity and time-frame you need for a fraction of the cost of buying them already made. I estimate the cost to be less than 3 cents per finished label when I make them. After customizing the templates, I estimate it takes me about 15-20 minutes to finish a batch of about 70 labels, or even less time for larger quantities since some steps can be done in "assemble line" fashion.

They are perfect for labeling store-bought garments with names or phone numbers, for personalizing handmade gifts, or (perhaps best of all) for branding your Etsy shop!

If you want custom labels already made for you, there are some great shops here on Etsy that will make ready-to-use printed labels for you. I prefer to make my own for a variety of reasons, and now you can too. This tutorial has clearly written directions and illustrations that will guide you through the process. This is my self-invented, tried-and-true method for making the professional quality, durable, readable labels that I use for all of my Etsy shop products. You will use a smooth-faced light-colored 100% cotton fabric of your choice (like quilter's fabric or white sheets) and an inkjet printer. All other tools and materials you need should be readily found in your own home or at local stores (though they are also available online), and I've included three .doc template files to get you started out with the correct label formatting. With the .pdf tutorial (viewable and printable with Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free download) and the three Microsoft Word templates included in this package, you will be able to make your own version of each of the three label types shown in the third photo. If you do not have Microsoft Word or an inkjet printer, both your local library and your local printer should have these available.

When I am notified that your payment has cleared, you will receive the easily printable .pdf tutorial file and 3 completely customizable MS Word label template files within 48 hours, sent to your email address on file with Etsy unless you specify a different email address at checkout. As with my handmade pattern files, this tutorial will be electronically delivered. Please convo with any questions prior to purchase!
