This three prong hair fork is 4 inches long with 3 inch tines and is handcrafted from reclaimed locust. These hair forks had a former life as part of a support beam in a barn in the mountains of North Carolina. The wood of the locust tree has long been chosen for its weather resistance, durability, and strength as evident by the miles of locust fence posts stitched across the mountains or the mighty posts and beams of barns and buildings of Appalachia. These are made in small batches, working with the grain and natural characteristics in the wood. This not only lends unique subtleties to each, but also sets a high standard of quality. I’ve personally given each piece my full attention. Expect your hair fork to age gracefully. I apply a light coat of jojoba oil to get the ball rolling, but as the fork takes on natural oils the color will darken and luster will deepen. It’s my favorite thing about natural wood.
