Melody (my American girl and the namesake of our Etsy shop) and I built this pure silk douppioni dress on a classic princess-line cut, adding beautiful sleeves with a twist reminiscent of a spring rosebud as well as a trickle of little fabric flowerets stitched to show off the ravishing texture of the silk. When we laid the flowerets all down the front, the result made us think of the blossoms of the summertime, even though winter is coming on strong. We encouraged them to fray just a little—it looks so well against the smooth, finished body of the dress.
Of course, we couldn’t call this dress finished without the Melody Valerie Couture bow. This dress has one stitched neatly on each cuff.
The construction of this dress is truly worthy of the name ‘couture’--the inside looks as good as the outside! The dress and its half-lining are constructed with miniscule French seams. We understitched the lining at the neck to make sure it wouldn’t roll out at odd moments. (That way, its smooth, red satin lining will be a secret between you and your doll!) We put an invisible zipper up the back, to guarantee a great fit and a smooth finish every time your doll puts it on. And to complete the dress, we hand-stitched the hem and the sleeves. The only exposed raw edges are those in the fabric flowerets sewn up the front.
Your very own Crimson Bouquet dress will arrive via USPS Priority Mail, along with care instructions and a sprig of lavender to keep it fresh during the journey.
