On offer is this fabulous HMV portable mono record player, produced in 1952, sadly now being sold as DISPLAY ONLY or SPARES or REPAIRS.
We bought it recently as a working model, it passed a PAT test and sounded reasonable, so we put it into a shop to be fitted with a new stylus. To cut a long story short, the guy turned out to be somewhat unscrupulous and when we eventually got the record player back, minus our deposit and with no new stylus, he had removed all the internal wiring!!!
I feel that such a gorgeous item still deserves a second chance and would make an ideal repair project for an enthusiast.
Otherwise it would make a fantastic display piece, perfect for a period theatre prop or window display.
If restored it is valve amplified and has four speeds, 16, 33, 45 and 78, for your entire vinyl collection.
Aesthetically it is in very good vintage condition, with a dark green and olive faux leather exterior and olive green interior with cream deck.
Inside the lid is a lovely bright decal of the iconic dog Nipper, listening to the gramophone, along with the Royal seal which says "The Gramophone Company Limited. By appointment suppliers of gramophones, records, radio and television apparatus to HM the King".
There are a few very minor scuffs to the outer casing, a tiny patch of cream paint missing next to the turntable and one of the four little rubber feet missing from the base, but it sits solid.

l: 30cm (11 3/4") 240v
w: 26.5cm (10 1/2")
h: 14cm (5 1/2")

weight unpackaged: approx. 4kg

A wonderful mid century collectible which would make a truly fab addition to your vintage inspired home.

PLEASE NOTE: This item is sold as a DISPLAY or RESTORATION PIECE ONLY. If purchased for restoration, this should be undertaken by an expert or fully checked by a qualified electrician prior to use.

HMV was a pioneer from the horn gramophone days. Their symbol, featuring the famous dog Nipper, was a mark of quality. HMV players were considered some of the best available in the 50's and 60s. (Retrowow)
