Text by Theodor Kraus

Photographs by Leonard von Matt

Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers, New York

1975 cloth-covered hardback book features 230 pages with 309 photographs, many in color. Book explores the ancient cities and civilizations of Pompeii and the seaport city of Herculaneum, destroyed by an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79A.D. Both cities, now living museums, offer relics of the past to be studied and preserved. Interesting photos and historical commentary. Great book for the archaeologist or anyone interested in ancient European civilization.

CONDITION: Front cover has some white spots (looks like liquid white-out) on it. along with a couple of brownish water spot stains. Back cover corners slightly bumped, but overall, cover is in good condition. No fraying or damage to the cloth. Grayscale photo coverings on inside of front and back covers have a few small areas of surface loss and breaks in the seams at top and bottom. Front inside cover has another "break" about three-quarters of the way down seam. Otherwise, inside pages are all clean, tight and intact.
