Sterling Silver and Marcasite Pendant Necklace

Gorgeous sterling silver necklace featuring a filigree open work Marcasite pendant. A magnificent, heirloom piece that will be handed down from generation to generation.

Reduced from $115! A real steal considering the price of Sterling Silver is just soaring.

Truly a beauty, is three dimensional (curved slightly), measuring about 1&5/8 inches long and 1.25" wide. The marcasite gives a subtle dark sparkle.

These pendants come from a third-generation-owned vintage bead warehouse. I don't know exactly how old these pieces are, but I know they were originally handmade in the USA from old molds and that date back to the late 40's through early '60's.

I am only able to get a few of these from the warehouse, and I just sold one at a market. Once you see this in person, you have to have it! They are exquisite and have a very nice substantial weight to them. A real quality piece!

I've hung it on a simple and dainty sterling silver chain. Both the pendant and chain are marked with the .925 silver symbol, indicating they are authentic sterling. Chain is 16" long with a 2" extender. If you desire something longer, please send me a conversation and we can chat.

Each piece will come with an original tag stating the piece is "Hand Made, Sterling Silver".

They would go well together without being too "matchy matchy".

If you care to read further about the history of Marcasite:

Marcasite jewelry has a history that stretches back hundreds and hundreds of years. Archaeologists have discovered examples of iron pyrite jewelry in Incan burial places in Peru, and ancient Greeks were also known to use it to adorn themselves. Marcasite was popular during the 18th century and was frequently seen in lockets, brooches, and cameos.

This gem was also favored during the Victorian era and was widely used in that time period. After the death of her husband, Britain's Queen Victoria chose to wear the black clothing and jewelry symbolic of widowhood and continued to do so until her death decades later. Her subjects followed her lead, and somber clothing and accessories in dark and muted shades were the fashion for many years. Iron pyrite's darker hues made it ideal for this type of jewelry.
