This necklace is in the shape of a right hand... It is hand fabricated by myself. The motif is a common amulet in the middle east... Whose hand it is depends on who you talk to...

This talisman is thought to be "The Hand of Fatima" (The Prophet Mohammed's daughter) in the Islamic faith...

This talisman is thought to be "The Hand of Mariam" (Moses and Aaron's sister) in the Judeo-Christian theology...

Both groups like to ward off the evil eye... who doesn't???

This motif is commonly known as a hamsa hand—hamsa, hamsa hand, hamesh, hamesh hand, khamsa, and chamsa. Both groups call it pretty much the same thing in both Arabic as well as Hebrew... The word “hamsa” or “hamesh” means five. There are five digits on the hamsa hand, but the number five has additional symbolic meaning in the Jewish and Islamic traditions. Five (hamesh in Hebrew) represents the five books of the Torah for Jews. It also symbolizes the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, "Heh", which represents one of God’s holy names. It symbolizes the Five Pillars of Islam for Sunnis, and the Five People of the Cloak for Shi'ites.

With so many similarities you would think that they could get along better... If you wear this necklace in old Jerusalem folks still won't know which side of the fence you are sitting on...

It was originally made as part of the EtsyMetal Team Project Runway Jewelery Challenge... The theme of which was 'the number five'...

anyway this necklace is made of sterling silver, the inset eye is made of bronze containing a turquoise stone surrounded by a silver bezel... It features an EASILY REMOVABLE red thread running through it in keeping with the Cabalistic doctrine... the necklace is 18"(46cm.) in length and is adjustable... the clasp is an coin marked 'indo-chine francise'... The reverse of the amulet bears my makers mark...

all of my work comes packaged in either a gift box or a small cloth drawstring pouch; just tell me your preferance in the "note to seller" during the checkout process...

i care about where I live so all my precious metals are made from certified 100% recycled material...
