This hand crafted copper filigree and Garnet pendant were created when my dear friend Mollie issued a challenge to me. Knowing my love of iron work she showed me this photo by Cat Ludwig Studio

and then challenged me to make a piece of filigree from it.

I chose as my inspiration the flowers and hearts I saw in the iron and after many hours of design and redesign in the sketchbook, this pendant is the result.

At the very center four 4mm garnets, embraced by a clover (a four petaled flower) with hearts dancing and a twisted wire frame to keep them all in the round. The clover reaches out resembling a Maltese Cross, giving it a very delicate look, though it is actually quite sturdy.

This pendant is much smaller than the photos show at just one inch in diameter, and hangs from one of my hand crafted chains, and graced with a hand forged clasp, 17 inches long.

As with all my copper pieces the wire used in this necklace will patina down to a rich earthy brown over time. A quick lemon juice bath and a scrub with an old soft bristled tooth brush will brighten it right back up to shiny penny new if you so desire.
