Tempus Fugit, a hand embossed anatomical repoussé metal framed artwork, created from sheet pewter.

Another medieval tomb inspired memento mori skull in my ongoing series, with 'Tempus Fugit' in a banner over a skull and crossbones. Time might fly but at least when you're old and your teeth have all fallen out, your skull will look great. I've added a black granular texture medium all around the embossing in this piece which brings it out and also makes it look like a plaque embedded in a wall.

This tiny ornate resin frame has a little fold-out stand at the back so it can sit on a flat surface, as well as a hook at the back.

Approximate sizes:
Frame: 10cm x 12cm x 2.2cm / 4" x 4.7" x .8"
Embossed panel: 6cm x 8cm / 2.2" x 3.2"

All pieces ship ready to hang (unless otherwise noted), with either a D-Ring screwed into the backing or for larger pieces, two D-Rings and hanging wire. I try to take photos of my pieces from several different angles to show the way the light interacts with the metal surface and paint, and the three-dimensional embossed shapes and textures (any props/easels in the photographs are for display only and are not included in the listing).

This item will be shipped to you regular airmail, which takes approx 3-4 working days to Australian locations and 7-10 working days to International locations. Please let me know if you would like the item shipped express, with tracking or with insurance.

I do ship worldwide wherever possible though I have not included shipping costs for all countries – if a shipping cost for your country is not listed, please contact me and I will give you a quote.

A CURIOUS ELIXIR : AN ALCHEMICAL TRANSFORMATION OF PEWTER INTO UNIQUE ARTWORKS

Using a metal tooling technique known as repoussé, I emboss each piece by hand in my Melbourne studio. After pressing the design into the pewter sheet, the surface is etched, bumped, scratched, marked, doused with a dark patinating solution and then polished back to give it a tarnished, aged look, leaving the metal surface stained with tones of blacks, browns, blues, golds and silvers - this process is wonderfully unpredictable, so every piece is completely unique. The piece is then finished with gems, glass paint, enamels, iridescent pigments and sometimes patterned origami papers or vintage engraving imagery. Each wall piece is sealed with several layers of crystalline wax to protect the surface, mounted on mdf panel and framed up ready to hang.

I may sometimes reuse patterns though I never use a stamp or machine embosser to create my artworks – every piece of metal art in this shop is handmade and one of a kind.
