Description

Brutalist London : Southwyck House Brixton. Illustrated Poster Art Print.

Size Guide: A5: 5.8 x 8.3in | A4: 8.27 x 11.69in | A3: 11.69 x 16.5in | A2: 16.5 x 23.4in | A1: 23.4 x 33.1in
Fine art Giclee Prints on 300gsm thick paper. I love this, as the archival inks enhance the colours, on light texture. (see last photo)
-----------
Southwyck House. A neo Brutalist Icon of Brixton, London, is known locally as the Barrier Block and presents a daunting edifice on Coldharbour Lane. The block's layered construction towers over the street outside, with the horseshoe-shaped structure giving the appearance of a medieval fortress. The windows are uncomfortable tiny, giving a feeling of claustrophobia from the outside. It's harsh, neobrutalist-inspired architecture and concrete lines zig zagging through the length of the building, curling around the estate are a striking visual.

The Barrier Block was designed to protect the Somerleyton Estate from the inevitable pollution and traffic noise, which explains its tiny windows and unusual 'zig-zag' design - this was intended to 'bounce' the sound back to the ground.

On a recent visit to Brixton, we walked through the estate. Surprisingly after entering, the flats themselves look well laid out with large balconies, a stark contrast to it's prison like exterior and pigeon hole windows. After illustrating the more popular Barbican and Trellick towers, I wanted to take a building that is not so common but yet so unique in it's structure and design.

It is stunning! The print is clear and crisp and bright, exactly as you would hope; very professional. It arrived quickly and it perfect condition. It has made a very good birthday present for a chap that has just bought a flat in Southwyck House :D

It is just as shown in the photo and better than the Bowie bags they are selling at the Brooklyn Museum at the Bowie exhibit.

FAQs

Royal Mail gives a tracking number with every International delivery. This tracking is updated at various check points.

First checkpoint- When it leaves UK and reaches the destination country.
The next update in tracking will only happen once the parcel has gone through and cleared by customs. This could take anywhere between 5- 20 days depending on the country. So if the tracking has not updated in the meantime, your item is probably in queue at customs.
The next tracking update will happen when the item has come out of custom centre and reaches the local Post Office for delivery.

I cannot predict how long an international delivery can take. For example a parcel to France has taken 7 days, and in another time 30 days!
You can get the perfect sized frames at John Lewis. A4/ A3/ A2 with and without mounts. You can also get the prints framed at a local framer. The reason I don't ship frames is because the weight increases the price of shipping exponentially and no guarantee of non breakage. Since these are fairly standard size prints, it works out better to get the framing done at your end.
The word Giclée ("g-clay"), is derived from the French verb gicler meaning "to squirt or spray". It a fine art digital printing process combining pigment based inks with 100% cotton paper to achieve prints of superior archival quality, that will not fade for more than 70 years.

The process involves squirting or spraying microscopic dots of pigment-based ink onto high quality art paper or canvas. The image is colour corrected to attain the closest possible match to the original work if required.

In short- Matte prints are brilliant, but Giclee is special.
