The Nutshell Library Evening Series by Sherwin Cody in 1907

Description

We have ten of a set of twelve volumes of Sherwin Cody's "An Evening with..." series. Mr. Cody was a stickler about the proper use of the English language and wrote innumerable volumes on the subject including his own grammar texts. Methinks he would expire from apoplexy upon hearing how the language is spoken today. (my opinion only, of course.)

This set was produced for the masses and each is covered with a brown paper cover. Being paper, the edges of the covers are quite worn and nicked, but by golly, are the signatures and pages ever tight and clean! the covers are embossed with the title and publisher. Each volume is 5 1/2" by 4" in size and intended to be read in an evening. Of course in 1907 when this set was produced, there weren't nearly the distractions that exist today, so an evening would just about do it for each book.

The titles we have are "An Evening with Irving", "...Lincoln", "...Lamb", "...Dickens","...Burns", "...Longfellow", "...Scott", "...Hawthorne", "...Thackeray", "...Shakspere". It's interesting to note how Mr. Cody spelled the last name, given he was such a stickler for proper English.
