Description

These rare jars are from the Finnish pharmacy Keski-Kotkan Apteekki, that was founded for the second time in 1940. For the first time Keski-Kotkan pharmacy was founded in 1927 in nowadays Russian town Viipuri. Keski-Kotkan Apteekki pharmacy was moved to Kotka from Viipuri after the Russian invasion to the eastern part of Finland in 1939 in the beginning of The Second World War.
I have worked as a pharmacist at Keski-Kotkan pharmacy for over a decade.
Based on this pharmacy's history, the Finnish Pharmacopoeias, and the development of glass producing technology in Finland, I can tell you that these jars are from the exact year 1940.
The bottles and jars with Kumela`s LASIMAALAAMO logo are probably made by Riihimäki glass works and painted in that same town at Kumela Lasimaalaamo glass painting works. Kumela started in 1933, and they continued painting glass for a decade. Glass painting stopped, when Kumela started to produce fine, and nowadays valuated design glass.
Even the jars are made by machine they are individuals: the weights vary, as well as the quality of glass in some cases.

I´m proud to offer you so many 1 and 2 and 3 and 5 liters jars, that are similar in forms, colours, type and quality. Therefor the style in labels, names and even in the fonts is the same.
I suggest you to conserve herbs or spices - why not rice, flours, coffee, cookies, candies or whatever in them. Here is a professional way to keep the moisture, insects and dust away, Amber glass protects the content against the sun light, too.
An eternal, practical, valuable and beautiful present for hostess for example.

Some measurements:
Weights vary from 750 g to 920 g
Height with the lid 19.5 cm
Diameter 10.3 cm
Volume 1.0 liter
Diameter of a lid is about 8 cm. With a jar you`ll get a similar lid, that is seen on the second last photo.
Except the rarity of the jar model are the labels quite unusual too.
The price is for one jar and one black bakelite lid.

Finnish old pharmacy labels:
Red font on white background means strong medicine, herb or chemical
Black font on white background means normal strength
White font on black background means poison
