This book was published in 1887 by the Chautauqua Press in New York back when there was no internet or computers to translate languages. People had to learn the language they wanted to read. This series was written for those who wanted to learn without teachers.

This is a textbook from "The After-School Series". The boards are green cloth with gold and black print on the spine and black print with gold and black illustration on the front. The corners, edges and top and bottom of the spine are bumped and worn with soiled spots. the binding is clean and tight, though. There are names, in pen and pencil, and date (1887) on the first front end paper. It is interesting that a newspaper article dated 1887 on the hundredth anniversary of the death of Mozart has been glued to both the front end pages. The page edges are browned and foxing lightly while the edges have soiled spots; the pages are slightly browned but otherwise clear and unmarked. It is 327 pages plus ads and 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Written by William Cleaver Wilkinson.
