Picture a warm, no-nonsense, plain-talking "hillbilly-type" grandma, who looks you right in the eye and tells you a remarkable story of a very special friendship between her two family members who are the most challanged--one blind, slow-moving and slow-thinking, and a little boy who, more than anything in the world, needs a friend. That is He Who Hears the Earth, to me. Here is an excerpt:

"He's such a good boy, my boy Lewie--a different kind of boy, that's for sure, but the best, just the same--and a special boy. He can hear the earth. Born to me late in life, come when I was fifty--last of my fourteen little ones--and never quite right. Some say that happens sometimes--that the mother's too old--but I tell you what I think; the good Lord never sends us nothing we can't handle, and He turns things around so what seems bad turns out to be a blessing. And that's Lewie all right--a blessing."

Like most of my other writing work, He Who Hears the Earth was inspired by my ever-growing collection of antique photographs and tintypes. This story, though, as far as inspirational sources are concerned, seems remarkable to me because I came across such a special snapshot for sale online; the one that WAS the whole story: a tall, blind man being led by a happy farmboy. On the snapshot's bottom was written, "Lewie and Lew." There it was, all "spelled out for me," as if the REAL Lewie and Lew, whoever they had been, were calling out for their exact story to be told!

This story booklet is 8 and a half by 11 in. in size, is four pages in length, held together by a cover of posterboard, and vintage ribbon, decorated wtih a Tibetan Silver metallic charm of a sunflower...to represent Lewie's beloved earth...

Happy Reading!
