Acorn Neck Ring, or Torc

This neck ring is a modern take on a traditional Celtic style, the torc. It consists of two twisted strands of bronze wire with cast acorn finials. The twist is approximately ¼ inch wide, or 0.5 cm. and will fit up to a 14 inch circumference, or 35.5 cm., neck comfortably. The acorn bangle I have listed would make a nice matched set.

The oak (or Duir in Gaelic) is considered the tree of knowledge. Thus, the acorn was seen as the passing of knowledge. The acorn appears later as a decorative element in personal adornment during the later Medieval Period when it became popular to romanticize the loss of sacred knowledge of the natural world.

Note that bronze may leave a green stain if you have acidic skin. This can be slowed, but not stopped, by applying clear nail polish to the interior of the torc. With wear the recesses will become darker, and the raised areas will take on a rich golden hue.
