The is an example of Classic English Poetry. Half bound in dark green leather with dark green cloth its gilt embellishments and titles make this a handsome edition. The pages are gilded on three edges with a silk marker ribbon and marbleized end papers. Unfortunately, the book has some very slight water damage to the bottom of the page edges but the outside is beautiful. It is unread. This copy is 618 pages long and 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall in size.

This edition is illustrated with facsimiles of woodcuts by William Caxton (d.1491), the first English printer, which appeared in his second edition of Canterbury Tales in 1484. The translation is by J.U. Nicolson, copyright 1934. Yes, a translation was needed. Have you ever read the English of Chaucer's time?
