Porcelain pill tiles were used to prepare medications in early apothecary shops. They were awarded to pharmacists upon their completion of their formal training and in recognition of their services to the community. In keeping with this fine tradition, Burroughs Wellcome Co. has commissioned craftsmen in Delft, Holland to create a series of handmade tiles. This limited edition is part of their Pharmacy Education Program.

These 3 tiles are part of that series. One is called The Herbalist, another The Pharmacist's Laboratory, and Women Pharmacists. Each has a written story on the bottom of the tile telling the history of that tile.

Each tile is handmade and stamped...Delfts Schoonhaven Holland

They are in very good condition, no scratches, chips or cracks.
