I've never seen anything like this unusual piece; from the scalloped handle to the embossed fleur des lis on each side, this petite 4-footed jug is a work of vintage art. Thrown, then hand-shaped, the pure white porcelain clay body was then hand painted in blue: a spinning wheel on one side, possibly a tiny boat on the horizon on the other, enhanced by delicate tracery. A clear salt glaze completes the glossy/matte surface.

Less than 5" high, the opening is about 3.25" x 2.25". Condition is perfect - no chips, cracks, nicks, repairs or restorations.

Marks: incised 'GR 5' '1 1/2' on bottom. Maker unknown.

A lovely gift idea for weavers, spinners, or collectors of blue and white china!
