This is a beautiful Indonesian copper tjap or cap from Java, a copper stamp used to apply the whole design at one time. It can be used on paper, silk, cotton etc. Each tjap is made from sheets of copper set on edge, to make up the design. These really are a work of art and look beautiful as decorative objects. I have used this tjap, of the Pansies flower to print with decolorant and devorant on silks and velvets. It works perfectly for this as well an printing dye or wax onto fabric or paper.

Hand made in Java by craftsmen who still make them in the traditional way, I bought this thinking I would get more use from it. It's too beautiful to lay at the bottom of a drawer unloved, and I need the space in my small workshop.

This tjap measures about 4.75 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. The printing block is just over 1 inch deep. The handle is 4.5 inches wide and just under 2 inches deep so plenty of room for gloved hands if needs be.
