I sculpted these sweet little birds from white porcelain clay. I used a bit of a vintage lace tablecloth to texture the "wing". These are unglazed porcelain and have a beautiful matte surface. I use a beautiful porcelain known as frost. It comes out of the bag with the appearance of cream cheese (it's as soft too), tricky but infinitely beautiful. I used a bit of an oxide wash to color their beaks, it fires to a rich plummy brown. These are quite small (about 1.5 inches from beak to tail), but would suffice for a small tier of a wedding cake.

I actually made these birds last spring. I had the most trouble photographing them and in time forgot about them. This morning I discovered that the dogwood tree in our front yard was beginning to bloom and picked one of the beautiful chartreuse flowers. The flowers are tipped in a rich plummy brown which reminded me of the beaks of these birds which I found in the drawer of my desk. So I'm listing them today, all because of the dogwood flower that reminded me of their existence.

These sweethearts will ship in a little brown kraft box ready for gift giving.
